Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) and oxy-combustion with natural gas and biogas

This project focuses on two main topics that have a single purpose: the investigation of combustion processes that do not require any flue gas separation process to allow CO2 capture. Specifically, two technologies are chosen to accomplish this task: Chemical Looping combustion (CLC) and oxy-combustion. Expected Results: With the completion of this project, burners will be built and validated, as well as comprehensive data on materials and gases for technical visualization in these burners will be available. New instrumentation techniques for this application will be evaluated, which should contribute to improvements in the development of the model. Regarding modeling techniques, new strategies must be proposed for both CLC and oxy-combustion. The Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) and oxy-combustion with natural gas and biogas project is coordinated by Prof. Doctor Guenther Carlos Krieger Filho and Prof. Doctor Fernando Luis Sacomano Filho (Vice-Coordinator). This project is developed within the center: FAPESP – SHELL CENTER FOR GREENHOUSE GAS RESEARCH AND INNOVATION, which aims to be a world-class center for advanced studies focused on innovation for sustainability and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions . The Center complements Fapesp’s experience in supporting high-level scientific research and technology development in these areas.
